Tom Dwan Joins Team Full Tilt
Tom Dwan, or “durrrr” as he is better known in the online world of poker, is one of the toughest poker players around. Known as an online poker giant, Dwan has attained his lofty status by putting in countless hours and earning more money playing online poker that just about any other player.
Born on July 30, 1986 in Edison New Jersey, Tom Dwan had been a student at Boston University as an English Major for one year before discovering poker. Banking on his ability to read the poker hands of his opponents, he left the student life to pursue his career in poker.
Dwan began by joining in small stakes Sit n’ Go games and once he conquered those, he moved on to taking down the competition in ring games. But he didn’t stop there and it didn’t take long until he was at the top of his game, taking on and taking down some of the world’s best poker players. Known for playing up to six online games simultaneously, Dwan defeats a healthy percentage of his opponents. Although he prefers to play Pot Limit Omaha and No Limit Hold ’em, he does play in other poker games and does equally well in them as well.
But don’t think Dwan is any stranger to the physical felt at live events; at the tender age of 17, he finished in 12th place at the European Poker Tour in England in the £3000 No Limit Texas Hold ’em, where he pocketed over $12,300 in prize money. Once he turned 21 and was of legal age to participate in the World Poker Tour, he played in the 2007 final event of the $9700 No Limit Hold ’em, making a strong showing by placing 4th and cashing out $324,244.
Then in 2008, Dwan made it to the 2nd place spot in the Aussie Millions Poker Championship playing Pot Limit Omaha and walked away with $90,000. Then he followed up with a 2nd place finish in the World Poker Tournament Borgata Winter Open, where he left the tables with a massive $226,100 after losing to James Michaels Sowers.
But that was apparently only the beginning. When he played at the Five Star World Poker Classic, Dwan finished in 9th place and won $184,670. Then it was off to the World Series of Poker where he snagged two 8th place finishes for which he received $45,110 by playing in the $5000 No Limit 2-7 Draw Lowball and $54,144 for playing in the $10,000 World Championship Mixed Event. And just so there is no question about his winning ways, Dwan’s 2008 earnings in live tournaments exceeded the $950,000 mark.
This year, 2009 saw Dwan place 9th at the 2009 National Heads-Up Poker Championship and taking 4th place at the 2007 World Poker Tour Main Event in Foxwoods Casino. In January of 2009, Dwan issued the "durrrr Challenge" to the entire poker world, offering to put up $1.5 million against any opponent’s $500K for playing heads-up online at four tables simultaneously for 50,000 hands. When the last hand is done, the player who has earned the most money wins the challenge.
Dwan is also no stranger to poker television shows. He appeared on Full Tilt Poker’s Million Dollar Cash Game, where he grabbed a pot worth over $1.1 million, which was largest pot in televised poker history. In addition, he has made multiple appearances on both popular TV shows Poker After Dark and High Stakes Poker.
And now you can join Dwan at the poker tables because he has signed with Full Tilt to be a member of their pro team. And he is not hard to find, because when he is not busy playing in the durrrr Challenge, he can often be found at the high-stakes No-Limit Hold ‘em and Pot Limit Omaha tables.
