2009 – The Year of Duuurs at Full Tilt Poker

There have been so many headline making events over the past year at Full Tilt Poker that it is hard to pick just one as the most memorable moment in 2009. Some may say it was that historic hand in the heads-up $500/$1000 Pot Limit Omaha match between Full Tilt Poker Team pro Patrik Antonius and ‘Isildur1’ that went down in history on November 21st. That was when Full Tilt Poker beat their own record for the biggest pot in online poker history, a whopping $1,356,947 that was won by Antonius. This hand smashed the previous record-setting pot on November 17th that Isildur1 and Antonius were butting heads for which was $878,958 and is now the second largest pot in online poker history. When Isildur1 finally gave it up for the night, he had lost over $2.1 million to Antonius and another $1.2 million to Phil Ivey, making his one day loss a staggering $3.3 million dollars. Many big-game watchers will agree - that is some amazing poker to watch and doesn’t happen anywhere but on Full Tilt Poker.

Maybe it is just coincidence that the two players who have generated the biggest buzz on Full Tilt this year both have a ‘dur’ in their online nicknames. Or maybe ‘dur’ is some obscure word from another world that is used when defining a high stakes gambler. Whichever it is, the ultimate dur, Tom "durrrr" Dwan made his name known throughout the poker galaxy in January of 2009 when he served up the “durrr challenge” at Full Tilt. Dwan’s challenge was that he offered to put up $1.5 million to any opponent's $500K, playing heads-up at four tables simultaneously for 50,000 hands. When the last hand has been played and the smoke clears, the player who is ahead, even if it is only by one dollar - wins the Challenge. What it amounts to is if "durrrr" wins, he keeps any money he won plus his challenger’s $500,000. If Dwan’s opponent wins, they keep their winnings and the $1.5 million that "durrrr" has put up. This proved irresistible to some of the world's best poker players like Team Full Tilt's Phil Ivey and Patrik Antonius, not to mention high-stakes player David Benyamine. With Dwan laying three-to-one odds for the "durrrr" Challenge, there were no shortage of players willing to put up $500k to take him on.

Since issuing his first challenge, Tom "durrrr" Dwan has joined the other famous faces of Team Full Tilt Poker which includes; Phil Ivey, Chris “Jesus” Ferguson, “The Professor” Lederer, Patrik Antonius and Jennifer Harman. But that hasn’t stopped Dwan from continuing to offer up new challenges which are available to watch live on Full Tilt Poker. Plus coming up next year, stay tuned for the Full Tilt Poker “durrrr” Million Dollar Challenge TV program which will be aired in 2010.

In the meantime you can look for “durrrr” playing online at Full Tilt Poker. And even if you can’t afford to take him on yourself, you can keep up with all of his challenging updates which are posted on his Tom “durrrr” Dwan blog – only at Full Tilt Poker.
