The Full Tilt Poker interviewer asked Greg the question, "What advice would you offer to someone making the first foray into the WSOP?" Greg responded for starters, that it has been a good while since he has attended the WSOP and felt that his style of play would greatly differ from that of a newcomer. Just as in a $1.5K event, he would be looking to pick up a good deal of chips early in the event and if that didn't happen he would simply enjoy the remainder of the day. However, Greg pointed out that if he were a newcomer to the WSOP and it was to be the first or only event he was going to play, he would play ultra tight with the objective of survival in the early game to last as long as possible. His best advice for someone new to the events would be for them to stay away from the pit to prevent burning up their money. By staying away from cash tournaments when you intend to play in a tournament, you preserve both your stamina and your bankroll. No one wants to lose a pile of cash and stay up all night trying to win it back and then face tough opponents the very next day in a tournament. It would only act to kill your focus on the $1.5K tournament, Greg stated.
Greg says you should map out your schedule, choose events that you want to play - those that you can actually afford, and be sure to get a good night's sleep. Then you can attend your tournament event and "come in realizing that it's the World Series." He says that when you take it seriously, your chances are better to do well.
