Full Tilt Poker Pro Huck Seed Crowned the 2009 NHUPC King
Full Tilt Poker is tipping their hat to their very own Full Tilt Poker pro Huckleberry Seed. Huck reigned victorious recently by becoming the 2009 National Heads-Up Champion (NHUPC). To win his crown, Huck managed to outplay Vanessa Rousso 2-0 in the best-of-three final round, taking the title and leaving the table with $500,000 as well as the NHUPC trophy. This prestigious win brought his career tournament earnings to over $4.5 million!
Huck is only the third ever WSOP Main Event champion who has also won the NHUPC. It comes as no surprise that the other two poker pros to manage this feat are Chris Ferguson and Phil Hellmuth. In addition to joining the short list of three for his achievement, his NHUPC win earned him yet another title as the most dominant heads up player in the history of the NHUPC. Huck's record is an astounding 18 wins to 4 losses and he is also the only player to cash in every NBC Heads-Up tournament.
Huck was born January 15, 1969 and grew up in Corvallis, Montana. He was a member of the 1987 Montana All-State basketball team and after graduating from Corvallis High School he attended the California Institute of Technology as an electrical engineering student. Not only was he a star player on Caltech's basketball team, but is featured in the 2006 documentary Quantum Hoops. In 1989, Huck took a leave of absence from school, began to play poker and never looked back.
Although an intimidating 6 feet, 7 inches tall, Huck is known as the quiet type, rarely speaking while playing at the poker tables. His reserved demeanor paid off, when he won his first World Series of Poker bracelet in a Pot-Limit Omaha tournament in 1994. Then, in 1996, he went on to win his second bracelet and $1 million dollars by taking the WSOP Main Event. Huck also made the final table in the 1999 WSOP, but was eliminated in sixth place by eventual champion Noel Furlong. He won his third WSOP bracelet in 2000 playing Razz, with an encore performance in 2003. Trying for another bracelet in the 2007 Main Event, Huck finished 73rd out of 6358 players.
In 2008, Huck won C$100,000 in the C$4,650 No-Limit Hold ‘em Canadian Open Poker Championship in Calgary, followed by making it to 7th place in the WSOP $50,000 HORSE event, where he won more than $280,000. As of 2009, in addition to his four WSOP bracelets, Huck has won a total of more than $4,600,000 in career winnings.
Huck also has a reputation for being an avid proposition gambler. Rumor has it that he once lost $50,000 on a proposition bet with Phil Hellmuth that he could stand in the ocean with water up to his shoulders for eighteen hours and only lasted for a total of 3 hours. Huck says this was not the case. He explained that the actual bet was never carried out and was actually for $10,000 to float in the ocean for 24 hours. He did, however, win $24,000 from Phil Hellmuth by playing 9 Ball for $2,000 a game.
Huck keeps his poker play sharp and honed by playing online exclusively at Full Tilt Poker when he is not scheduled in any tournaments. Look for Huck and the other Full Tilt Poker team pros at the tables the next time you grab a seat! Play against and learn from Huck - only at Full Tilt Poker!
