Full Tilt Pro Gavin Smith Takes $188,000 at the Fallsview Classic

Congratulations to Full Tilt Poker Pro Gavin Smith, who walked away with over $188,000 for his win at the Fallsview Classic Poker Invitational! Previously known as the World Poker Tour North American Poker Championships, Gavin took the win in the $2,500 buy-in event which was no easy feat, as the final day lasted a very long and grueling 19 hours. But Gavin persevered, plowing through a playing field of 267 players, he clawed his way to the top to reign victorious in the Fallsview Casino event in Ontario Canada.

Gavin is no stranger to tough competition, in fact he was named the World Poker Tour’s ‘World Player of the Year’ back in 2006 and has over $5 million in career tournament earnings, which every player knows you don’t get without some fierce competition. Nicknamed “Birdguts,” Gavin began playing poker in 1994, after his discovery of roving charity casinos around the Toronto area. In 1998, he turned Professional poker player and entered his first tournament at the World Poker Finals at Foxwoods where he managed to make two final tables.

Then in 1999, Gavin notched his first major tournament win at the World Poker Finals, when he won the No-Limit Hold 'em tournament. He followed up by winning a Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo 8 or Better tournament the very next year at Foxwoods, and has achieved making at least a dozen more final tables since that. However, his most lucrative year was 2005, during which Gavin took two tournaments at the Mirage Poker Showdown and pocketed more than $155,000 from the $2,000 No-Limit Hold 'em event, as well as over $1.1 Million in the $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em World Poker Tour event.

The year 2005 proved to be a very good year for Gavin when he went on to cash in four Ultimate Poker Challenge tournaments, four World Series of Poker tournaments and then took third at the Doyle Brunson North American Poker Championship, from which he gained more than $327,000.

But, he didn’t stop there. The next year, in 2006, he made an impressive second place finish in the World Series of Poker Circuit Harrah’s New Orleans and took first place in the World Pro-Am Challenge in Las Vegas. This added a combined total of nearly $800,000 to his bankroll and led to his gaining the title of World Poker Tour Player of the year in the month of May. Then in 2008, Gavin snagged a second place finish in Ontario at the World Porker Tour North American Poker Championships, which won him in excess of $500,000. Now, he has kicked off 2010 with his $188,000 win at the Fallsview Classic to prove that year after year, he is a force to be reckoned with at the poker tables.

When Gavin is not playing at the poker tables, whether in land-based events or online at the Full Tilt Poker, he enjoys playing golf, rollerblading and shooting pool with friends.

Who knows what he will accomplish next? You can keep a close eye on him by watching him play at the Full Tilt poker tables or joining him in a game! Who knows, maybe you can learn a thing or two from him to enhance your own game when you join his table - only at Full Tilt Poker!
